The course runs over 6 consecutive days and is divided into 4 units and covers everything from the legal aspects of working in security to the latest physical intervention techniques. NEW SIA Course Update (April 2021) From April 1st this course will become a 6 day course instead of a 4 day course. In addition, you must have a first aid qualification before you can take the training. This should be an Emergency First Aid at work certificate or higher.

This course will provide you with the knowledge and skills required to obtain the SIA Licence and work in frontline security roles.

Certificates are available via email within a week of completing the course. You may request a posted certificate at an additional cost of £14.99.
You can work as a Security Guard with a Door Supervisor Licence. In fact, the Door Supervisor Licence is one of the most versatile licences in the security industry. It's important to remember that if you instead take the Security Guard Course, for example, you can't apply for a Door Supervisor badge.
This makes the Door Supervisor Course more valuable when applying for jobs, and will make you more eligible for more work much faster.

The closest train station is Elsecar. On arriving at this station, you can take the 201 bus to Stocksbridge. Leave the bus after 6 stops and walk the remaining 5 minutes. Alternatively, you can grab a taxi which will take around 8 mins for the 3 mile journey.
If you are travelling from Barnsley interchange, then you will need to take the 67a bus to Wombwell, from Platform 3A. Get off in 27 minutes after 27 stops at Wentworth Way/Maple Road. From there the venue is a 6-minute walk.
Parking
If you are driving to the venue, then there is onsite parking available. If you want to take a trip into Barnsley town centre during a lunch break, then here are some car parks that you can stop at.

The venue in Tankersley has a walkability score of 35 which means you’ll need to grab a car or taxi or bus to get to most places.
Accommodation
You can of course stay at the venue if you are travelling from afar. It’s not the cheapest option but is still reasonably priced and has two indoor swimming pools and a wellness centre. Other local hotels that are reasonably priced include the ibis Styles and the Holiday Inn. You can check out other hotel accommodation here.
Food
There are tons of cafes and restaurants to get some great value food in Barnsley town centre. Try the Country Kitchen at 372 Barugh Green Rd, where they serve hot breakfast and American food for breakfast and lunch. Landon’s Diner is also popular with locals serving home cooked food at Mapplewell.
The Backyard BBQ at 6 The Arcade, Barnsley S70 2QN, is also a favourite. If you are staying in Barnsley overnight, then don’t miss out on some amazing pizza and pasta at The Secret Italian in the town centre at McLintock Way, Barnsley S70 6BF. And another one not to miss is some of the best fish and chips at Ernies which is located at 12 High St, Hoyland, Barnsley S74 9AB.
