start working in security

It’s that time again: the start of a 12-hour shift.

It’s the weekend. Those blissful, crowd-free days are over and it’s Saturday night. The clubs are packed with weekend revellers and your shift might not finish until 4 am. Eek!

To help you get through, here are our top tips on how to survive the weekend as a Door Supervisor!

1. Get good rest before your shift.

Putting off your daytime nap can be critical and a real ‘bad move’ when you might be working till the early hours of the morning. If you want to change your weekend mindset, it’s best to start as you mean to go on.

Get a good rest, no employer wants a Door Supervisor nodding off at midnight.

2. Eat, eat, eat!

Ok guys, let’s talk about food and water. It’s a proven fact that eating a nutritional meal before and throughout your workday will enhance your mood. No one wants a ‘hangry‘ Door Supervisor!

Note: Eating small meals often during your long shift is important. If you eat a huge meal just before it starts, this could make you lethargic. Eating small snacks throughout your working night will help keep your energy up.

3. ‘Keep moving people!’

It’s 2 AM, you’re standing at the door and it’s chilly! Moving is an important part of staying awake and keeping your mind and body active. While working as a Door Supervisor you must be alert at all times. Don’t just stand there, walk around, stretch, and exercise. Keeping your body moving will keep your blood flowing and mind awake.

4. Be careful when drinking caffeine.

Just like with working a day shift, caffeinating during the second half of your shift reduces your chance of sleeping when you get home. Plan your caffeine and be careful with your caffeine intake.

5. Chat to your co-workers to keep you motivated.

Talking to your co-workers can motivate you throughout your shift and help you remain alert when dealing and talking with the general public. Chatting with your co-workers can also be a great way to gain support, which is good to have to assist you with your survival as a Door Supervisor.
